Southeast Bulloch celebrates senior night with a 50-14 victory over the Groves Rebels

Southeast Bulloch High School celebrated its Senior Night with a commanding 50-14 victory over Groves, advancing to the GHSA playoffs. The game, marked by strong plays from SEB’s seniors, showcased powerful offense and relentless defense, solidifying the team’s position in the rankings. They will find out who the next game is against when GHSA sets its rankings on Saturday, November 9th. They advance after finishing their regular season with 8 wins and 2 losses.

On a memorable Senior Night, Southeast Bulloch’s Head Coach Zito shared his confidence in the team’s preparation despite recent adverse weather. With the game impacting SEB’s power ranking, the Yellow Jackets were ready to showcase their skills. Before kickoff, seniors stood at the 50-yard line behind captains Kyle O’Brien (#0), JoTavion Gaines (#66), Mike Dixon (#55), and Quinton Reed (#31), eager to lead SEB to victory.

First Quarter

SEB kicked off the scoring with Colby Smith’s impressive 26-yard touchdown run, bringing the Jackets their first touchdown. Following a forced fumble by Michael Dixon, Jayden Murphy capitalized with a 25-yard touchdown, extending the score to 14-0. SEB’s defense held strong, leading to another offensive push, and Smith rushed up the middle for a third touchdown, ending the first quarter at 21-0. Before the clock ran out, Kyle O’Brien blocked a punt, recovering it for a touchdown and bringing SEB to a 28-0 lead.

Score: 28-0 SEB

Second Quarter

Groves continued their drive, but SEB’s defense held firm, forcing a turnover on downs. Rhett Morgan then connected with Easton Phillips for a 65-yard touchdown pass—the first of the season for Phillips—moving the score up to 35-0. With just minutes left in the half, Quentin Reed’s 63-yard rush set up another touchdown to make it 41-0. SEB’s Chase Douglas forced a safety, wrapping up the first half at a dominating 43-0.

Third Quarter

As the second half began, Groves attempted to make a comeback. After SEB fumbled, Groves managed a touchdown, narrowing the score to 43-6. Groves then recovered an onside kick and scored again, closing out the third quarter at 43-13.

Score: 43-14 SEB

Fourth Quarter

SEB’s offense faced a strong defensive push, resulting in a forced punt. However, Jacalen Wells came through with a key interception, returning possession to SEB. Eli Reed followed up with a touchdown run, bringing the final score to 50-14. SEB’s defense intercepted one last pass as the game concluded, securing a triumphant Senior Night victory.

The Yellow Jackets will find out if they will have a home game in the first round when the GHSA sets its rankings. Southeast Bulloch finished the season the regular season with 8 wins and 2 losses.  

Southeast Bulloch will travel to The Heritage in Ringgold, GA on Friday, November 15 at 7:30 pm.
