First positive case of Chronic Wasting Disease confirmed in Georgia
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Wildlife Resources Division has confirmed the first case of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in Georgia, detected in a hunter-harvested deer in Lanier County. With the DNR’s CWD Response Plan now in effect, efforts are underway to monitor and manage the spread of this fatal neurological disease in deer populations.
