Earlier this month, Tormenta FC’s Statesboro 04/05 and 07 conquered the Open Cup State Competition in each of its respective age categories.

In one of the most competitive competitions in the region, both Statesboro boys’ teams were able to secure silverware in their last tournament of the season. Head Coaches Johnnie Sanchez and Ayo Fajemisin knew it was crucial to bring the cups back to Statesboro.

“Following Tormenta FC’s tremendous success in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and league play, we knew we had to continue the trend of winning, so we challenged ourselves to bring the Open Cup State Championship home," Tormenta FC Youth Academy Head Coach Johnnie Sanchez commented.

“The growth the team has shown this season has been immense and I am beyond proud of the unity the group showed. As the Tormenta FC youth academy continues to grow, many more accolades are to come for every Tormenta FC academy team.”

The first half of December saw many Tormenta FC academy teams enjoy success on and off the field, with the two titles conquered in the Open Cup State Competition and the Academy participating in MLS NEXT Fest for the second consecutive year.

During the tournament, South Georgia native Elijah Brooks was selected to compete in the MLS NEXT Best of U17 Showcase. Brooks represented the East and saw 45 minutes of action.

Despite a 5-4 defeat, the Tormenta FC Academy product was able to assist in the fourth goal of team east.
