Ambassadors of Kindness: Resident team welcomes newcomers to The Lodge at Bethany

At The Lodge at Bethany, the Ambassadors Program is all about making new residents feel at home from the moment they arrive. Rooted in the values of service and community, this unique program allows seasoned residents to guide newcomers as an "instant friend," offering support and a friendly face to ease the transition into their new home.

The Ambassadors Program at The Lodge at Bethany in Statesboro pairs existing residents with new residents to ease the transition into assisted living. The program, says Regina Bell, RN, BSN, Executive Director of Bethany, embodies the values of the Bethany Organization, which is built on the foundation of serving others, as Jesus teaches.

“Our employees fulfill this mission every day, so why not extend it to the residents? I believe this is exactly what the Ambassador Program is all about. We want each person to experience a welcoming sense of home. A new place can be intimidating or scary, but it can also be fun and exciting when a new resident moves into Bethany and joins the ‘Bethany family,’ both residents and staff. Who better to assist than someone who has experienced all the feelings that new residents anticipate when they arrive at Bethany?”

The Ambassador Program is designed to focus on new residents, helping them acclimate to their new environment, routines, and events, while warmly welcoming and orienting them into the Bethany family. The ambassadors serve as friendly guides, ensuring a smooth transition and fostering a sense of belonging within the community.

They welcome new residents and come alongside them as they adjust to their new home within the assisted living community. They invite them to activities, sit with them at meals, and help them get acquainted with other residents. The ambassadors also act as a liaison between the management team and new residents, answering questions and advocating for all members of the community.

Ambassadors are selected by their peers, first chosen from a list of all residents, then voted on to select the five finalists. These individuals are best able to fulfill the duties outlined, with a strong focus on embodying the role and a heart for service. The five ambassadors for The Lodge at Bethany are: Penny Simmons, Sylvia Prosser, Jean Roundtree, Joy Collins, and Pam Tiller.

The ambassadors meet monthly, each assigned a new resident—an ‘instant friend’ for their arrival. They meet with prospective families, ask welcoming and thoughtful questions, introduce new residents to others with similar interests, and invite them to various activities.
