Statesboro's Market2Go brings fresh, local food year-round

Statesboro Market2Go, an extension of the Statesboro Main Street Farmer’s Market, makes it possible to have fresh, local produce and good food all year long. The opening day of the Saturday market is also just around the corner, and this year it brings a new market manager, Kelsie Cobb.

Statesboro Market2Go, an extension of the Statesboro Main Street Farmer’s Market, has been in operation since 2011 to bring goods to shoppers during the “off season” of the market. But local produce doesn’t really have an “off season” — just an ever changing variety throughout the seasons.

The convenient drive-thru Market2Go pickup, which began during Covid to reduce contact, now serves as a quick and easy pick up method for customers every Thursday behind the Visitor’s Center in Downtown Statesboro.

Some of the best produce of the year is available during the winter, including greens like kale, broccoli, cabbage, root vegetables, and citrus, all nurturing the body’s need for extra nutrients during the colder months.

Michele Giddens, Market2Go Manager says, “The market connects our community to fresh, locally grown produce, meats, dairy, baked goods, and more all year round.”

Local vendors including Jacobs Produce, Hazelnut Farms, Mack Family Farm, Ole McDonnell’s Farm, and more regularly have a wide array of produce available through the Market2Go. The online market recently added Sweet Fruition Farm, a small farm in Bulloch County, as a vendor. Other various vendors sell meat, bakery goods, flowers, honey, and much more.

Regular Market2Go customer Pat Homer shares, “We love Statesboro Market2Go - it’s convenient, the food is so fresh, and we can get local items year round.”

Giddens says they have an average of around 70 customers a week.

“By offering a convenient option to access healthy, sustainable food from local farmers, we're fostering a stronger, more resilient food system and supporting our local economy in the process.”

Through the market’s partnership with Wholesome Wave Georgia, the market is proud to offer EBT & SNAP matching. Whatever you spend, you'll receive a matching amount of fresh and free produce. This program supports local farmers and contributes to the state’s food economy.

In other exciting market news, the upcoming 2025 market season in April will welcome a new Market Manager, Kelsie Cobb. Cobb is a recent Georgia Southern University Graduate and native of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Cobb says she is excited about meeting and connecting with people in the community. She shares, “We've had so much fun getting ready for the 2025 season. I'm very lucky to be brought into a farmer’s market team that already has a strong idea of what's best for the market and the vendors.”

While helping with the Market2Go on Thursdays, Cobb has learned about the systems they have in place to help bring people closer to the farmers and makers their food comes from.

“The relationships made within the market team itself have been so beneficial," says Cobb.

Learning from the best, Cobb follows in the footsteps of previous Market Managers, Willow Farmer and Relinda Walker. She currently works with Terry Ward, Assistant Market Manager, Michele Giddens, Market2Go Manager, and Murphy McRae, Visitor Center Manager, to keep things going smoothly during the week.

Cobb’s biggest hope for the new season is to grow and include more farmers and growers in the community. “I would also love to tap into the student market and get a younger generation interested in local food accessibility. What better way to learn about Statesboro than meet the people who grow your food here?" says Cobb.

The Statesboro Main Street Farmer's Market opening day is Saturday, April 5, 2025, located behind the Visitor's Center at 222 South Main Street, Statesboro.
