The Georgia Southern Eagles are gearing up to face the Buffalo Bulls in their fifth-ever postseason bowl.

The Camellia Bowl will kick off at 11:02 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27 in Montgomery, Alabama.

This will be the Eagles fifth appearance in the postseason. Previous matchups include:

  • 2018 Camellia Bowl against Eastern Michigan (GS won 23-21)
  • 2015 GoDaddy Bowl against Bowling Green (GS won 58-27)
  • Two regular season matchups against Western Michigan (GS won 43-17 in 2015, WMU won 49-31 in 2016)

The Eagles’ most recent 2018 victory saw a fourth quarter 29-yard run by Shai Werts on fourth and 10 set up the 40-yard game-winning field goal from Tyler Bass.

This represented GS’s second bowl win in five years as a Division I-A (FBS) team.

On Dec. 27, GS will look to sideline the Buffalo Bulls. The Bulls, a member of FBS and a member of the MAC, will have a familiar face in tow.

Former GS kicker Tyler Bass is now with the Bulls.

Bass will be familiar to GS fans as he made the game-winning kick in the 2018 Camellia Bowl.

Not to be outdone, the Eagles will be bringing an equally familiar face to the match up in GS quarterback Kyle Vantrease.

An Ohio native, Vantrease played with Buffalo for five years putting up 4,755 points, with a total of 25 touchdowns through the air with a 132.1 QB rating during his career with the Bulls.

Buffalo defeated Akron on Dec. 2 to earn its berth to the postseason.

The Bulls most recent postseason appearance was in 2020 at the Camellia Bowl against then-C-USA member Marshall.

The game was tied 10-10 in the fourth quarter, but a rushing touchdown by Kevin Marks Jr. with 1:09 left in the game gave Buffalo its second consecutive bowl win and second bowl win ever.
