Each year, the Statesboro-Bulloch Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Bulloch Class completes a community project. After seeking input from the community, the Class of 2025 has chosen to create an inclusive playground at the Statesboro YMCA. The project is being spearheaded by Leadership Bulloch, with the support of Statesboro AMBUCS and the Statesboro Family YMCA.
This adaptive, fully ADA-compliant playground will be designed to accommodate individuals of all abilities, featuring safe swings, slides, and a zero-gravity chair.
The goal of this project is to create a space where people of all ages and abilities can play and interact together. By breaking down barriers and promoting inclusivity, the class hopes this playground will foster a sense of community and belonging.
"For many with physical limitations, traditional playgrounds and exercise equipment simply aren't build for their needs. It's not about ability -- but design," Seth Williford of the Class of 2025 said.
See more, including thoughts from families whose children are looking forward to using this special space, in the video below.
As one mom in the video points out, "it takes a village." To make this dream a reality, the Leadership Bulloch Class of 2025 is seeking donations from individuals and businesses, and they need your help. Donations of any amount are welcome and will be greatly appreciated.
"Join us in building a fully accessible space, where everyone is invited to play, connect, and belong," class member Ashley Rushing said.
Sponsorship information is available here, and individual donations can be made here.
