Meet 2023 DWTSS Dancers Virginia Cone and Devon Thompson

Introducing Virginia Cone and Devon Thompson 2023 DWTSS contestants. Grice Connect is introducing the community to the 2023 Dancing with the Statesboro Stars (DWTSS) dancers. The event will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at 6:30pm and the encore show will be Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 3pm at the Connection Church.

Presenting 2023 DWTSS Dancers Virginia Cone and Devon Thompson. They are competing along with eleven other teams to win the 2023 Mirror Ball Trophy Judges Choice award and the Top Fundraiser award. 

Dancing with the Statesboro Stars is a night of dancing and performances to raise funds and awareness for Safe Haven, the nonprofit organization that serves adult and child survivors of domestic violence in Bulloch and five surrounding counties.

The 13th annual Dancing with the Statesboro Stars presented by D&R Car Care will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at 6:30pm and the encore show will be Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 3pm at the Connection Church. 

Each day leading up to the event on November 9, 2023 we will introduce you to the 12 teams competing.

MEET VIRGINIA

Virginia Jones Cone was born in Statesboro and has been married to her husband for 21 years.  He along with their six children, grandchildren, and family members are her biggest cheerleaders. She currently works at Morris Bank as an Assistant Contact Center Manager as of 2020. She retired from her previous job of 19 years at 1st Franklin Financial as an Assistant Branch Manager in 2018. She then decided to further her education at Ogeechee Technical College and received a Business Technology Associate of Applied Science degree.

Virginia is passionate about helping others, especially children. She attends Whitesville Full Gospel Church where she also teaches children.

During her free time over the years, she graduated from Millie Lewis Modeling School, volunteers in the community: with Red Cross, Downtown Statesboro events with Morris Bank, and Feed the ‘Boro. She also coaches basketball for kids at the Statesboro Recreation Department.

Virginia is honored and grateful for the opportunity to support Safe Haven by DWTSS.

MEET DEVON

Devon Thompson is a Georgia Southern graduate and is back in school working on his Master’s in Business Administration. Statesboro has become home to him, but California will always have his heart.

He works with United Airlines as a ramp agent. As a bonus with the job, he gets to travel the world a lot more and experience all the different dance cultures which brings joy to his heart.

Devon is also a hip-hop teacher at Technique Dance Company. He loves participating in Dancing with the Statesboro Stars because he gets to help Safe Haven change people’s lives for the better. He also enjoys the interactions he has with all the other dancers who also enjoy doing something great for their community. That’s awesome!

About Safe Haven

Safe Haven is a program of Citizens Against Violence, Inc., a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) corporation. It is the emergency safe house for adult and child victims of domestic violence serving Bulloch, Candler, Effingham, Jenkins, Screven and Washington counties.  Save Haven is open 24 hours per day/7 days per week.  The length of time at the shelter is based on personal plans and progress towards independence.

There is no charge for services provided at the shelter which include:

  • Access to a 24-hour crisis line
  • Immediate, safe, emergency shelter
  • Advocacy by knowledgeable, caring professionals
  • Case management services
  • Parenting classes
  • Family safety planning
  • Access to donated clothing and furnishings
  • Transportation
  • Legal Advocacy
  • Childcare
  • Community support
  • Housing assistance
  • Relocation services

Safe Haven's Crisis Line is available 24/7 at (912) 764-4605, and you can visit their Outreach office at 204 North College St. from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Advocates are available to assist with safety planning and explain the numerous free and confidential ways they support survivors of domestic violence in our community.
