STATESBORO, GA – 6:55 AM EST, March 5, 2025 – A rapidly approaching line of severe thunderstorms threatens Bulloch, Candler, Evans, Jenkins, and Tattnall counties in Georgia, as well as Allendale and Screven counties in South Carolina, until at least 7:45 AM EST.
IMMEDIATE DANGER:
- Strong Thunderstorms: Doppler radar indicates a line of intense thunderstorms moving eastward at 35 mph. These storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 50 mph.
- Hazardous Winds: Expect downed tree limbs and unsecured objects to be blown around.
- Impacted Areas: Reidsville, Collins, Millen, Metter, Portal, Statesboro, Hagan, Claxton, Sylvania, and Brooklet are all in the direct path of these storms. Interstate 16 between mile markers 105 and 130 is also within the affected zone.
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IN EFFECT:
- A Severe Thunderstorm Watch (number 25) is in effect until 10:00 AM EST. Residents should remain vigilant and prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
HIGH WIND ADVISORY EXTENDED:
- In addition to the immediate thunderstorm threat, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6:00 PM EST this evening.
- Southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching 40 to 45 mph, are expected throughout the day.
- These sustained high winds pose a significant risk of downed tree limbs, power outages, and hazardous driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles.
- Secure all outdoor objects.
