Severe thunderstorm sweeps through Bulloch County, leaving hundreds without power and causing damage

Utility crews are working diligently to restore power to hundreds of customers in Bulloch County after a powerful thunderstorm caused widespread outages.

Statesboro, GA - Monday, March 31, 2025, 6:38 PM EDT - A powerful thunderstorm rolled through Bulloch County this afternoon, leaving a trail of downed trees and widespread power outages in its wake. As of 6:30 PM, a total of 856 power outages were reported across the county, impacting hundreds of residents and businesses.

Georgia Power reported the most concentrated outages in the northern part of the county, with 340 customers without power along Highway 301 North, stretching from the Highway 301 Bypass to the vicinity of the Statesboro Airport. Excelsior EMC reported a total of 865 outages across their entire service area, with 516 of those affecting Bulloch County residents in scattered clusters. Both utility providers have confirmed that their crews are actively working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

The severity of the storm also led to structural damage in the City of Statesboro. The Statesboro Fire Department responded to a call in the 200 block of Aldred Avenue where trees had fallen through the roof of a home. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this incident.

Roadways throughout Bulloch County have also been affected by fallen trees. The Bulloch County Sheriff's Office is working alongside the Bulloch County Correctional Institute inmates (BCCI) and Bulloch Public Works to clear the debris and ensure safe passage for motorists. Numerous traffic signals are also reported to be out of service across the county. Authorities are urging drivers to approach all intersections with extreme caution, treating them as four-way stops until power is restored.

Residents are advised to exercise caution while traveling and report any downed power lines or hazardous situations to the appropriate authorities.
