If your home took a hit from Tropical Storm Debby or Hurricane Helene but you can still live there safely, FEMA might have a little help for you. They’re offering up to $300 in one-time financial assistance for cleanup costs to eligible homeowners and renters.

You might qualify for this FEMA assistance if:

  • Your primary home, before the storms, was in one of the counties approved for Individual Assistance for Hurricane Helene.
  • After a FEMA inspection, they confirm your home has damage or, for renters, that cleanup is needed or has already been done. If you’ve already cleaned up, hang on to those receipts for any supplies, materials, or paid help.
  • The damage isn’t covered by your insurance.
  • FEMA finds your primary residence is safe enough to live in.

This could be a helpful boost, especially if you’ve already rolled up your sleeves and tackled some of the mess!

Go online to DisasterAssistance.gov, visit a Disaster Recovery Center, use the FEMA App, or call 800-621-3362.  Lines are open every day and help is available in most languages. If you use a relay service, such as Video Relay Service (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service. For an accessible video on how to apply for assistance go to FEMA Accessible: Applying for Individual Assistance - YouTube.

If you applied to FEMA after Tropical Storm Debby damage Aug. 4 – 20, 2024 and have additional damage from Hurricane Helene, you will need to apply separately for Helene and provide the dates of your most recent damage.
