Here's a recap of the South Georgia Tormenta FC W League's most recent matches.

May 26 Match vs. NC Courage U23

South Georgia Tormenta FC’s W League was defeated by NC Courage U23 with a 1-4 score in the home opener Sunday, May 26 at Tormenta stadium.

The two teams met on the pitch just one week prior to the home opener, which resulted in a 1-1 draw in Cary, North Carolina.

The pitch saw Tormenta’s Andrea Ougaard make her debut, acting as a starting midfielder for the match. The Danish midfielder played 70 minutes of the match.

Scoring was opened in the fourth minute of play when NC Courage found the back of the net. As the Courage made attacks, South Georgia counteracted with strong clearances and defensive plays.

Moments later, Carlyn Presley of Tormenta FC was the first to make a shot on target for the Ibises, but was unable to convert her attempt. The remainder of the first half was rife with attempted shots from both teams.

Just before the whistle signifying halftime, South Georgia’s Momo Nakao went one-on-one through a line of defenders and blasted a shot into the back of the net, marking the first home goal of the season and the first of the match for Tormenta FC.

In the 50th minute of play, NC Courage found its second goal of the match. Tormenta remained steadfast in remaining focused on minimizing the lead held by the Courage, but ultimately the Courage found its third goal in the 76th minute and a fourth just moments later.

May 29 Match vs. South Carolina United FC Bantams

South Georgia Tormenta FC’s W League team secured a victory with a 1-4 score against the South Carolina United FC Bantams on the road in Columbia, South Carolina. Elis Nemtsov found the first brace of the season, tallying two goals for South Georgia. Goal scoring began early for the Ibises, with Nemtsov finding the back of the net in the mere fifth minute of the match. The goal was assisted by Natalia Santangelo, her first of the season.

The match’s intensity only heightened following the initial goal. Keeper Jenna Moran made multiple pivotal saves, with one notably coming just after Nemtsov’s goal to preserve the early lead.

As the Bantams sought to apply pressure to Tormenta’s backline, attempts were quickly thwarted at each turn by the Ibises. The Bantams did, however, slot a goal in the later minutes of the first half, bringing the match temporarily to a tie.

South Georgia responded to the Bantams’ goal by finding its second of the night less than ten minutes later, when Ashley Henderson sent a shot sailing into the net with an assist from Smith Cathey.

The second half of the match was riddled with attempted shots on goal from both teams. Keeper Moran and the Tormenta defense made dynamic plays to preserve the lead, while sending the ball down the pitch to promote attacking plays and higher pressure.

In the 64th minute of play, Tormenta locked in its third goal of the evening, when Nemtsov, assisted by Carlyn Presley, sent the ball gliding past the Bantams’ keeper.

In the later moments of the match, Carlyn Presley was awarded a penalty kick after being fouled by a member of the Bantams in the penalty area. Presley attempted the penalty kick but the shot was saved by the keeper.

To close the match, South Georgia’s Piper Biziorek sealed the final goal of the evening in the 88th minute, dashing past the Bantams’ defense and launching a ball into the top of the goal.

June 2 Match vs. Carolina Ascent

Tormenta FC’s W League triumphed over Carolina Ascent with a 3-2 score on June 2 at Tormenta Stadium. An unprecedented goal from midfield during the last moments of the first half solidified the victory.

South Georgia applied heavy pressure early in the first half, particularly looking to push the ball up the wings in search of an early goal. In the eighth minute, Tormenta’s Alice Bussey swiped a loose ball and skillfully placed it past the keeper and into the net.

The match continued to ramp up in intensity following the opening goal, as Carolina Ascent earned back-to-back corner kicks in the 9th minute but was unable to take those opportunities and convert them into a goal.

The strength of Tormenta’s backline shined from the moment the women took the pitch, with a key save by keeper Jenna Moran coming in the middle of the first half.

Carolina Ascent found its way past Tormenta’s defense on one occasion in the first half, slotting a goal in the 29th minute. With a match level approaching halftime, each team was intent on finding the next goal.

In the 43rd minute, Tormenta found the sought-after goal to regain the lead. Piper Biziorek sent a ball to Courtney Chochol, who finessed a shot artfully past the keeper and into the net.

In support of this lead, Eads blasted a shot from the midline, which bounced out of the Carolina Ascent’s keeper’s reach and into the net. The impressive long shot marks Eads’ first goal for South Georgia.

In the 61st minute of play, Carolina Ascent made its second goal of the night, bolstering its trailing score. This second-half goal marked the last of the match.

The remainder of the match was riddled with scoring opportunities, but neither side conceded any goals. The match saw several intense aerial duels, as both sides vied for possession, which paid off as the final whistle blew, signifying a Tormenta FC win.
