First Quarter: Gators Strike Early

The Gators wasted no time making their mark. On their first drive, Danye Garvin carried the ball for a yard, followed by Shamar Jenkins gaining two more yards on a crucial third-and-seven. Ike Hubbard’s 7.5-yard gain secured a first down on the RTCA 40-yard line. Garvin added another three yards, setting up a third-and-two on the RTCA 35.

Jenkins then broke through for a significant gain, moving the ball to the RTCA 16-yard line. From there, Jenkins added a 7-yard carry, making it a second-and-three. The drive culminated in a touchdown by quarterback Sam Hubbard, putting the Gators up 7-0.

The Gators' defense was equally impressive. Micah McDonald punted the ball well, while the Gators defense squad, led by senior free safety William Polk and sophomore defensive tackle Braylon Cone, ensured the Knights struggled.

Second Quarter: Gators Extend Their Lead

As the second quarter began, the Gators continued to dominate. Ike Hubbard’s 4-yard gain on a third-and-three set up another promising drive. Jenkins then made a crucial 10-yard gain, and although an illegal procedure penalty set the Gators back, they persevered. On fourth-and-11, Jenkins powered through for a first down on the RTCA 4-yard line.

A series of strong carries from Garvin and Hubbard, including a touchdown by Garvin, pushed the Gators ahead 14-0. JB Roach’s tackle on second-and-13 and another defensive play by Land Kennedy kept the Knights at bay. Even though Hubbard fumbled, he managed to recover, and Jenkins connected with a pass for a first down on the RTCA 22.

Garvin’s hard work resulted in another touchdown, making it 21-0. The Knights’ attempt to answer was spoiled by two back to back tackles for loss by Cone to give the Gators another go at scoring before the half.

The Gators got within striking distance with 1:15 left in the half but couldn’t convert the drive into six so they tried to settle for three, but the field goal attempt was ruined by the Crusaders who wanted to all but ensure a shutout into halftime.

Third Quarter: Gators Capitalize on Opportunities

The second half saw the Gators’ defense shine even brighter. RTCA’s fake punt attempt resulted in a turnover on downs, but the Gators missed their opportunity to capitalize immediately. Parker Chance’s interception and subsequent 43-yard return set up Jenkins for a spectacular touchdown run, increasing the Gators’ lead to 28-0.

Despite RTCA’s attempts to regroup, a sack by JT Lee and another near-interception by Ike Hubbard kept them under pressure. The Knights managed to score their only touchdown of the game with 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Gators' dominance was evident.

Fourth Quarter: Gators Finish Strong

In the final quarter, Sam Hubbard demonstrated his agility with a quarterback keeper for a gain and a subsequent second touchdown of the night. Jenkins, showcasing his resilience, broke multiple tackles to score his second touchdown of the night as well. The special teams added to the excitement with Cohen Hendrix’s impressive punt return tackle, and Braylen Cone recovered a fumble with less than a minute left.

The game ended with a final score of 42-7, highlighting the Gators’ impressive performance. The dominant display on both offense and defense ensured a memorable victory for Bulloch Academy, solidifying their position as a team to be reckoned with.

Head Coach Aaron Phillips was proud of his team’s performance in this game, but knows that his team needs to make better decisions down the stretch to continue the success they have had so far in the season.

“We always play hard and we show a lot of effort,” Phillips said. “We don’t always do the right thing and execute. Tonight we had some opportunities and we put the ball on the ground and we can’t do that inside the ten.”

Overall his team played hard given the sloppy and wet conditions they had to play in, but can’t allow certain things to happen down the stretch or get complacent as they move further into the season.

Up Next

The Gators will be back in action next Friday, September 13, as they travel to Milledgeville, GA as they prepare to take on a well-coached John Milledge team.
