No. 5 Seminoles Defeat GS Eagles Softball, 9-1, On Sunday

Georgia Southern goes 3-2 at the FSU Dugout Classic, returns home to host KSU on Tuesday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - No. 5-ranked Florida State used a six-run first inning to collect a 9-1 victory over visiting Georgia Southern in the Eagles' final game of the FSU Dugout Club Classic on Sunday in Tallahassee, Fla.

The Eagles (10-10) finish the weekend's action with a 3-2 mark, defeating Colgate once and UMass twice while falling to the host Seminoles (20-3) twice. Georgia Southern returns to action on Tuesday, hosting in-state rival Kennesaw State at 5 p.m. at Beautiful Eagle Field.

Florida State batted around in the first inning, the big hit coming from Krystina Hartley, who cleared the bases with a three-run triple to put the Seminoles up, 6-0.

An error led to a single run for FSU in the bottom of the third, while the Eagles got on the board in the top of the fourth as Janai Conklin and Dejah Mills drew walks, then Courtney Ball brought home Conklin on an RBI single.

The Seminoles closed out the game with a triple and a sacrifice fly plating two in the bottom of the fifth.

Mack Leonard (1-0) notched the win for FSU, hurling two hitless innings, walking two and striking out four. Morgan Kendrick (5-1) suffered her first loss of the season for the Eagles, giving up five hits and six runs in 2/3rds of an inning, walking three and striking out one.
