The Georgia Southern football team opens up its 2023 campaign on Saturday when it hosts The Citadel at Allen E. Paulson Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:02 p.m. and will be streamed online through ESPN+. The game will also be available via radio on the Georgia Southern Sports Network. Here's all you need to know about the game:

- This will be the 25th meeting on the gridiron between Georgia Southern and The Citadel with the Eagles leading 19-5. Georgia Southern won six straight in the series from 1997-2002 and then won five straight from 2007-2011 to take a commanding lead in the series.
- Twenty-one of the 24 previous meetings all came when both schools were in the Southern Conference (1992-2013).
- Georgia Southern has won 15 of its past 16 home openers and is 32-7-1 all-time in home openers (32-6 at Paulson Stadium). The last home opener the Eagles lost was in 2017 against Arkansas State.
- Special teams coordinator Turner West, now in his second season at Georgia Southern, came to GS after serving as the special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator at The Citadel for the previous three seasons. Tight end Dylan Snyder spent a year at The Citadel before transferring to Southern.
