SEB boys running it back with new faces

The Southeast Bulloch boys team had an up and down season in 2023-24 as they finished with a 14-15 record. The Yellow Jackets found themselves facing off with some tough non region match-ups. Their season ended in the first round of the state playoffs when they came up just short against Baldwin High.

Head Coach, Tony Raymond, is at the helm once again for SEB.

Raymond spoke on the changes to his roster. “I expect my senior center Ash Collins to be the leader and enforcer of our team,” Raymond said. Collins is the only returning starter from last year’s team. Coach Raymond also called on his juniors Nate Higgins and Haiden Enslow to step up and help lead this team as well.

Coach Raymond said that the goal is to make it back to the state playoffs for the third consecutive season.

“We have adopted the OOO mentality,” Raymond said. “We want to OUTWORK, OUTPLAY, and OUTLAST our opponents.”

This will be SEB’s first season in the AAA Region 3. They are going to see different competition from what they have seen in the past, but Coach Raymond believes they will be ready.

“We want to be playing our best ball in January and February,” Raymond said.

SEB girls continue to develop and improve

The SEB girls are coming off of a season of development. They finished with a 5-19 record last season. Despite the record, the girls improved over the season and played better in the second half of the season.

Head Coach Jonathon Roddie is in charge of leading this team back into competition. Last season’s team was young, so there are a good amount of returning players. Kayla Adams, Madison LanierTrell Reed, Kelsey Johnson, Ella Rae Jernigan, and Kamil Johnson are all players who Roddie cited as leaders for his team. Many of the players on the team are multi-sport athletes, so they know what it means to compete.

“The goal this year is to just get better overall,” Roddie said. “Getting better doesn’t necessarily mean improving the win-loss record right away even though that would be great. We have to learn more about the game individually and as a team.”

Roddie and the coaching staff put an emphasis on their players doing everything to the best of their ability. ”I know they are going to play hard; I just want them to put it all together and have fun doing it.”
