Visit Statesboro opens new boardwalk and unveils Eagle

Visit Statesboro officially opened their new boardwalk and bridge, which connects the Willie McTell Trail with the Market, just in time for the opening of the Statesboro Farmers Market this weekend.

Visit Statesboro held a spring open house on Tuesday evening at "The Market," which is the pavilion behind their office location on South Main. It houses the Statesboro Main Street Farmers Market which opens for the season on Saturday.

Below is video of the program.

The event highlighted recent additions to the facility including the new boardwalk and bridge that link the Willie McTell Trail to the Market building. This area will also include picnic seating for all to enjoy. The improvements were funded through a 2022 agreement with the city to use TAD (Tax Allocation District) dollars.

This gorgeous new area will allow citizens to easily access and travel between the McTell Trail and the Statesboro Main Street Farmer's Market. It will also provide a place of respite for those enjoying or dining at the market.

"We come together tonight to demonstrate the incredible success our community can have when we all work together," said Barry Turner, Past Chair of the Visit Statesboro Board.  "This beautiful facility and now the connecting boardwalk was made possible because multiple agencies including the Downtown Development Authority, the City of Statesboro, The Main Street Farmers Market, and Visit Statesboro came together to bring this dream to reality."

The open house also featured a surprise unveiling attended by Georgia Southern President Dr. Kyle Marrero. Kept under wraps until the event, Visit Statesboro secured one of the famous Statesboro Eagle statues for a pedestal just outside the market venue. This is the newest Eagle installation with the last one being installed in 2016.

Opening Day for the farmer's market is this coming Saturday, April 1. Grice Connect will bring you additional details ahead of the opening.
