Statesboro Fire Department celebrates new recruit class

Five new firefighters have joined the Statesboro Fire Department after completing their rigorous recruit class training. The fire department is actively hiring for additional firefighters.

The Statesboro Fire Department has welcomed five members of Recruit Class 2023-1 as the newest members of their department. They completed their rigorous training on Friday, February 24, and received their shift assignments. 

FF Bradley Sapp, FF Bradley Scott and FF Hunter Swinford were assigned to A Shift under the command of Battalion Chief Merritt Kearns; FF Aiden Propps is assigned to B Shift under the command of Battalion Chief Lee Nessmith; and FF Logan Merriman is assigned to C Shift under the command of Battalion Chief Steven Morris.  

A pinning ceremony was held on Saturday, March 4, where they received their helmets, shields and collar brass.

The Statesboro Fire Department has received a grant that will fund new firefighters. Interested applicants can either apply online at www.statesboroga.gov or visit the Statesboro Fire Station #1 at 24 West Grady Street.
