James Henderson, Ogeechee Technical College’s 2023-2024 Dinah Culbreath Wayne Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) delegate, was honored this week by OTC faculty and staff, as he prepares to travel to the state leadership institute in Atlanta.

The 2024 Dinah Culbreath Wayne EAGLE Leadership Institute, a three-day event held in Atlanta on March 25-27, recognizes and honors students who have demonstrated superior achievement in adult education classes and programs, and provides them with sessions to develop leadership skills.

Henderson, a Brooklet native, graduated from the Adult Education Program in 2023. His motivation and eagerness to learn allowed him to complete his credentials in less than six months.

“No matter how one has come to be where they are, the option of adult education provides opportunities for success for its students,” said Henderson. “It has opened many doors I never thought would be available to me.”

Henderson is currently enrolled at East Georgia State College where he plans to advance his college education, obtain a bachelor’s degree, and eventually become an English instructor. He hopes to one day use his education to teach English abroad.

“Not only is James a dedicated student, but he also invents a lot of his time volunteering and giving back to our community,” said Nakya Canty, Career Transition Specialist at OTC. “He is a great example of how Adult Education can help move your career forward, and he wishes to encourage others to pursue their credentials as well.”
