New downtown boutique Mirror on Main preparing for grand opening

Maria Proctor has opened Mirror on Main, located at 65 E. Main Street, a one-stop shop for women's clothing, shoes, and accessories. They will be having a two-day grand opening celebration on October 5 and 6, starting at 10:00am. The first 25 women will get a swag bag, and there will be giveaways throughout the weekend.

Maria Proctor has opened Mirror on Main at 65 E. Main St. in downtown Statesboro, in the former Jaxe & Grace Boutique location. Proctor created the boutique with the idea that busy women, including interns, college students, teachers, and moms, can have a variety of "crossover pieces" to go from work, to their child's game, to a dinner date -- all in the same comfortable, yet trendy, outfit.

A resident of Statesboro since 2012, Proctor was inspired to open Mirror on Main, which she affectionately calls "MOM," by a lack of clothing store options.

"There was a need for it," Proctor says.

Proctor and her husband, Reggie Proctor, moved to Bulloch County over a decade ago when her husband, a now retired registered cardiovascular technician, joined a local cardiology team at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.

Since that time, Proctor has made herself no stranger to the local boutique business. In 2012, she opened Prom Bae, formerly known as Madame Couture. Then, in January of 2023, she opened The Quince of Your Dreams, a store dedicated to quinceanera gowns and accessories. By October of that same year, Proctor had opened The Collective and Vine, which features 20 small businesses in one space.

Proctor's most recent boutique offers a variety of sizes, ranging from extra small to 3X. In addition to women's clothing and accessories, MOM sells soaps, candles, and other self-care items. She communicates regularly with her customers to be able to fulfill their wants and needs.

"We opened in August. The city came and did our building inspection on that Monday when [Hurricane] Debby decided that she wanted to come to town," Proctor says. "So I was with the city trying to get the building inspected while Debby was trying to make landfall."

Even with the precarious beginning, MOM is fulfilling a niche for working women in the Boro.

"It has surpassed my expectations," Proctor says. "I'm having to keep up with the volume."

MOM is planning on hosting monthly events that include holiday celebrations, as well as styling days where customers can bring pieces from home to find the perfect match or inquire about the most fashionable way to assemble an outfit.

A grand opening celebration will be held on Saturday, October 5, from 10am-2pm.
