Several groups in Statesboro have come together over the last week to serve and honor the linemen who got our community back online after Hurricane Helene.
On Thursday, church members gathered at Statesboro Worship to assemble approximately 540 goody bags for linemen working in the area.
Donations of goods and money were generously provided by several local groups, including Wall Orthodontics, Southern Family Dental Group, Statesboro Family Practice, and various Bible study groups, as well as friends and teachers from Statesboro.
From the assembled bags, 400 were delivered to the "tent city" where linemen from EMC are staying, while the remaining 140 bags were sent to Statesboro High School, a staging area for additional linemen.
The community also contributed cases of water, electrolyte drinks, fresh apples and oranges, and a box of first aid supplies to support the workers during their challenging assignments.
On Friday night, AgSouth in Statesboro held its first installment of "Feed Our Linemen," which was a true community effort. They fed approximately 175 linemen a taco feast from El Sombrero.
AgSouth's Andrea Whitfield shared, "We put this into motion Tuesday with help from multiple community business partners and a huge outpouring from individuals throughout the community. We had donations from so many from homemade desserts, drinks, paper products, sweet tea, and individual monetary donations. The most special was the homemade cards made by children throughout Bulloch County!"
AgSouth Farm Credit Statesboro, Citizens Bank of the South - Statesboro, Renasant Bank Statesboro, Morris Bank Statesboro, Synovus Statesboro, Bulloch First and Kennedy's Heating & Air, Inc. offered monetary contributions and helping hands to make the event happen. Tara Mincey, Tess Stewart, and Kelli Newman assisted with coordination, and the Bulloch County Commission provided a special thank you to the linemen.
Whitfield said the best part was seeing the children in attendance be able to say thank you and pray for these men and women who have worked so hard to get our community back and running.
