Georgia Southern University's Shooting Sports Education Center (SSEC) is gearing up for the 2025 SSEC Summer Camps season.
Whether your student is brand new to Summer at the SSEC or they are looking forward to returning for another year, they'll find a variety of hands-on activities designed to help them learn, make new friends, and build their confidence, including:
- Learning how to shoot a bow or firearm for the first time,
- Identifying fish from their shadow underwater,
- Developing marksmanship skills from Collegiate and Olympic-level coaches,
- Even creating works of art from paint and sponge-tipped arrows, and many more!
Parents of SSEC campers love the instructors, variety of activities, and emphasis on trying new things while making new friends.

“This was a favorite camp for my child this summer! He enjoyed the ability to be hands on with several different firearms and gained helpful information to take with him for years to come. As a parent, I thought the team did a fabulous job keeping the kids interested and busy," shared one parent. “[My child] was taught to succeed without worry,” shared another.
Far beyond just aiming and firing, shooting sports camps offer a unique array of benefits. SSEC camps focus on building confidence, concentration, and responsibility in participants, and fostering a safe, supportive environment where teamwork and sportsmanship are celebrated.
Building Confidence and Focus
One of the key advantages of the SSEC shooting sports camps is their ability to instill confidence and focus in participants. Whether it's mastering the techniques of archery or honing marksmanship skills with rifles, campers learn to set goals, develop concentration abilities, and boost self-esteem by celebrating their achievements. Campers develop a sense of accomplishment that carries over into other aspects of their lives.

Promoting Safety, Responsibility and Discipline
Safety is paramount in any shooting sport. Campers learn proper safety protocols, including how to handle firearms and bows safely, respect for their tools, and adherence to range rules. Moreover, shooting sports require mental discipline, encouraging campers to focus their minds and block out distractions. These lessons instill a profound sense of responsibility and emphasize the importance of discipline and respect - helping participants to excel academically and professionally.
Fostering Teamwork and Sportsmanship
Many of the SSEC summer camps emphasize teamwork and sportsmanship, fostering an environment where campers support and encourage one another. Whether youth are participating in team-based competitions or engaging in friendly target practice, campers learn the value of collaboration and camaraderie. Through shared experiences and mutual respect, they develop lasting friendships and a sense of belonging within the shooting sports community.
