A significant fuel spill from a tractor trailer collision forced the closure of a major roadway in Bulloch County for over six hours on Friday, September 20, 2024. Highway 67 at the intersection with Brooklet-Denmark Road was shut down after a tractor trailer collided with a jeep around 6:00 pm.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the southbound tractor trailer failed to stop at the traffic signal, striking a northbound jeep traveling on Brooklet-Denmark as it entered the intersection. The impact ruptured the truck's fuel tanks, releasing over 200 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway.

Local emergency services, including Bulloch County EMS, Fire Services, Sheriff’s Deputies, and Georgia State Patrol Troopers,  responded to the scene. Remarkably, no injuries were reported from the incident despite the severity of the crash.

The spill required an extensive cleanup operation led by Bulloch County Public Works, which involved laying down multiple truckloads of dirt to absorb the spilled fuel. Randy's Wrecker Service was also at the scene with heavy machinery to remove the contaminated soil and the involved vehicles.

The roadway was reopened after midnight, following a cleanup that lasted over six hours.

Trooper First Class Keith McCarty of GSP Post 45 is leading the investigation of the crash.
