Experience the Aurora is set for October 25 at 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm

The Georgia Southern Planetarium will host evening showings of Experience the Aurora on Friday, October 25, 2024 at 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm.

The show will allow you to take a trip into the Arctic Circle to see the Northern Lights. The auroras will be projected all around the dome to give you the closest "big sky" experience to actually being there.

Researchers traveled to colder than imaginable locations like Svalbard, Norway, and Fairbanks, Alaska, to capture the beauty of the Northern Lights in time-lapse video. The show will share some of the science behind auroras, while offering stunning views of this phenomenon.

The best views of the Northern Lights, of course, come from these faraway locations, and you're lucky if you catch a glimpse of what can be a somewhat unpredictable natural phenomenon. But with this show, you are guaranteed to get a full view of these colorful, dancing lights -- and the planetarium is much warmer than the -58° F the researchers withstood to get the footage!

Planetarium staff will also share beautiful images from the James Webb telescope, which are sure to impress. The Webb telescope continues to produce groundbreaking photos of galaxies far, far away.

Tickets are $4 per person and on sale now here. Please contact the planetarium at (912) 478-5292 or [email protected] with any questions.

The Georgia Southern Planetarium is located inside the Math & Physics Building near the Russell Union on the Statesboro campus.
