Bulloch County honors Veterans with a day of events, meals and discounts

The Grice Connect team has worked to compile a list of ways our community is coming together to honor our Veterans and active duty military members. This list includes some of the events, free meals and discounts businesses are providing to honor Veterans. Feel free to add others events or discounts for Veterans in the comments on social media.

On Monday, November 11, 2024 our community will come together to honor and thank our Veterans and active duty military for their service to our county and community.   This year is no exception for extraordinary opportunities provided by organizations and businesses to honor our Veterans. 

The Grice Connect team has worked to put together a list of events and ways Veterans will be honored on Veterans Day.   This list is a starting point, there are so many others that we certainly have missed.  We encourage organizations and businesses to comment on this story on social media with ways you plan to honor our Veterans.

Veterans Day Breakfast

The day begins with a Veterans Day breakfast held in partnership with the NAACP at the Statesboro Family YMCA, 409 Clairborne Avenue, Statesboro from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.  NAACP wil also be offering free hair cuts to Veterans at the YMCA.

Statesboro to honor Veterans at Averitt Center featuring keynote by Chaplain Nick Spletstoser

This year’s community wide Veterans Day event is taking place on Monday, November 11, 2024 at the Averitt Center for the Arts, located at 33 East Main Street in downtown Statesboro. The program is made possible through the support of the Averitt Center, American Legion Post 90, and Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens.

The morning will kick off with music by Isaac Sherrod from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Alongside this, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will provide coffee and doughnuts to guests.

Following the program, all attendees are invited to a free picnic lunch provided by Post 90 at 100 Rucker Lane, with hamburgers, hot dogs, and all the fixings.

For those who cannot attend in person, Grice Connect will stream the Veterans Day program live on Facebook beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Bulloch County Schools to honor Veterans with special programs

Julia P. Bryant Elementary School - Veterans Day Program

Julia P. Bryant Elementary will host a Veterans Day program on Monday, November 11, at 8:30 a.m. in the school cafeteria. Local veterans are invited to join students and staff for this commemorative event. 

Brooklet Elementary School - Veterans Day Program

Brooklet Elementary will begin its Veterans Day program on November 11 at 8:00 a.m. in the multipurpose room. The program will feature patriotic music performed by the school’s chorus and students, offering veterans and community members a heartfelt tribute.

Sallie Zetterower Elementary School - Veterans Day Breakfast

Sallie Zetterower Elementary will host its annual Veterans Day Breakfast on November 11, from 8:15 to 9:00 a.m. in the school cafeteria. This event is specially dedicated to students’ family members who are veterans, providing a moment of gratitude over a shared meal.

Langston Chapel Elementary School - Veterans Day Program

Langston Chapel Elementary will hold its Veterans Day program at 9:00 a.m. on November 11 in the multipurpose room, featuring guest speaker Phil Crowley. The program will include patriotic performances and inspirational messages honoring veterans in the community.

Portal Elementary School - Veterans Day Program

Portal Elementary will host its annual Veterans Day program on November 11 at 9:30 a.m. in the multipurpose room. The event will include music, inspirational speeches, and a multigenerational slideshow featuring local veterans and family members of faculty who have served in the military.

These programs exemplify Bulloch County’s dedication to honoring veterans through community-driven events that allow students and citizens alike to express their gratitude and respect for the nation’s veterans.

2024 Veterans Day Restaurant Discounts

Buffalo Wild Wings -- On November 11, veterans and active-duty service members get 10 free boneless wings and fries with valid ID. Available for dine-in or, if ordering from a Buffalo Wild Wings GO location, available for walk-in/orders placed at the counter only.

Chicken Salad Chick -- On November 11, veterans and active-duty military receive a free meal at all locations.

Chili's -- Veterans and active-duty military members get a free meal on November 11 at all participating restaurants. Available in-restaurant only for select items. Military ID required to redeem offer.

Cracker Barrel -- On November 11, veterans and active-duty service members get a complimentary Sunrise Pancake Special at all locations, available for dine-in guests. And from November 1 through 11, Cracker Barrel will offer 25% off military-themed apparel in-store and online.

Dunkin' -- Active and retired military get a free donut on November 11. Limit one per guest while supplies last. Offer available in-store only. Not available for orders placed using On-the-Go Mobile Ordering through the Dunkin’ Mobile App

Firehouse Subs -- On November 11, active-duty military and veterans get a free medium sub with the purchase of a medium or large sub, chips, and a drink. Must show military ID.

Huey Magoo's -- Veterans and active-duty military receive a free 3-Piece Tender Meal with the purchase of a beverage on November 11. Must show Military or Veteran ID or 00-214 form to redeem. Offer valid for one-time use only for in-store orders. Offer only valid at participating locations.

Insomnia Cookies -- Active-duty and retired military get a free Deluxe cookie in-store with $5 purchase when you show your military ID, November 9 through 11.

Krispy Kreme -- The chain will be offering a free small coffee, hot or iced, and a free doughnut of choice to all service members and military veterans. There is a limit of one per guest, and the deal can be accessed in-shop or at a drive-thru.

Krystal -- Krystal is honoring those who have served by offering a free Breakfast Sandwich from opening to 11am on November 11. Show proof of service (military ID) and choose from select breakfast sandwiches.

Little Caesars -- On November 11, from 11:00am to 2:00pm, veterans and active-duty military can enjoy a complimentary Lunch Combo, which includes four slices of Little Caesars signature Detroit-style Deep Dish pizza and a 20-ounce beverage.

Olive Garden -- To thank members of the military for their service, Olive Garden is offering those that dine-in on November 11 a complimentary entrée from a special menu.

Ruby Tuesday -- Active-duty military and veterans get a free Garden Bar entrée, American Smashed Burger, or Ruby’s Cheeseburger with military ID on November 11. Code HERO24.

Shane's Rib Shack -- Active, inactive, and retired military personnel get a free Slow-Smoked BBQ Pork or Chopped BBQ Chicken Plate on November 11. Offer valid in-store only. One free meal per veteran. Must show proof of service. 

Smoothie King -- The drink spot will be offering free 20 oz. smoothies for veterans from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. local time at participating locations — with a patriotic theme. After presenting a military ID, veterans can claim a red, white or blue smoothie: the Strawberry X-Treme, the Slim-N-Trim Vanilla or the Blueberry Heaven.

SONIC Drive-In -- On November 11, get half price shakes in any size and flavor, including both Classic and Master Shakes.

Starbucks -- Starbucks is honoring those who have served with a free tall (12-ounce) brewed coffee (hot or iced) for veterans, military service members and military spouses at participating U.S. stores and licensed locations on November 11.

Texas Roadhouse -- Active-duty military and veterans can receive a meal voucher on November 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a form of military ID. These vouchers are good for dine in or carry out at a later time. The voucher is good until May 30, 2025.

TravelCenters of America -- Active military and veterans get a free meal at participating restaurants on November 11. Bring proof of service and enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner at TA, Petro, or TA Express travel centers.

Wendy’s -- Veterans and active-duty military get a free Breakfast Combo, no purchase required, during breakfast hours on November 11 at participating locations. Cannot be combined with other offers or discounts. Not valid for digital, delivery or kiosk orders.

2024 Veterans Day Retail Deals and Discounts

Food Lion -- On November 11, active-duty military personnel, veterans and their families get a 10% discount by presenting their MVP card and military identification at checkout. Purchases of pharmacy, alcohol, tobacco, gift cards, lottery, pharmacy, postage stamps and services do not count toward the discount. This offer is only valid in-store and unavailable through Food Lion To Go Pickup and/or Home Delivery.

Great Clips – On November 11, veterans and active military service members can go to any U.S. Great Clips salon and get a free haircut or a card for a free haircut that can be redeemed during a future visit. 

Office Depot and OfficeMax -- Veterans, active duty and retired military personnel, reservists, and their dependents receive 25% off qualifying regular and sale-priced purchases in Office Depot and OfficeMax stores nationwide November 9 through 11. To take advantage of this special Veterans Day discount, shoppers must present a valid military ID, military dependent ID or form of veteran ID at the time of purchase.

Publix -- Veterans and active military personnel get 10% off on groceries on November 11. This offer excludes prescriptions, alcohol, tobacco, gift cards, lottery tickets, postage stamps, and money services. Valid for in-store purchases only.

Sport Clips -- On November 11, participating Sport Clips locations will provide free haircuts to veterans and active-duty service members as well as donate $2 for every paid haircut service provided on that day. 

Tractor Supply Company -- Active-duty military and veterans receive a 10% discount on November 11. Heroes must complete the Hometown Heroes verification process through Neighbor’s Club to receive their discount.

Walgreens -- From November 8 through 11, veterans, military and their families will receive 20% off regular price eligible store items at any Walgreens or Duane Reade drugstore nationwide. Restrictions may apply.
