Grice salutes Kiwanis for the gift they are to our community

Fair week is the most demanding week of the year, but also the week they generate the revenue to help so many

The Kiwanis Club of Statesboro had apparently ran through their list of qualified speakers for the year so they invited me to address them at their monthly meeting Thursday.

It is always a pleasure to have the opportunity to share with civic clubs and organizations about the work we are doing at Grice Connect. They learn about ways you can step into the arena with us. Together we can continue to make a difference.

When Kiwanian Marilyn Darrell invited me to speak, she forgot to share that this meeting is one of the most well attended and important meetings of the year for the club. It is the last meeting before they enter the most demanding week of the year for the members, Fair Week.

These ordinary citizen Kiwanians will rise up over the next week to give back to our community in extraordinary ways. From parking cars, selling tickets to flipping pancakes, many of them will leave from a full day of work, and give unselfishly to make sure the fair, once again thrills everyone who attends.

Today, I thanked them for this, for their individual commitment to the club and our community. I reminded them of the phenomenal difference they make for so many in our community.

When Hurricane Matthew impacted our community in 2016, they were one of the first organizations I reached out to for help. They committed quickly to help and continue to be a valuable partner to Bulloch VOAD today.

In times of crisis or disaster, they always are ready to help the community in every way possible. Countless non-profit's share my appreciation for the financial contributions they make to their agencies.

These funds and resources are primarily raised during the week of the fair.

As you visit the fair this week, take a moment and thank the men and women in the yellow shirts and coats for all of their work this week and for what they do year round for our community.
