GALLERY | The Button & Citizens of GA Power team up to pack 'Summer Survival' bags

It was a team effort on Wednesday, May 1, to pack more than 1,200 bags of hygiene products for young people in our community to use over the summer.

On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, The Button, a nonprofit organization that provides personal hygiene products for local middle and high school students, teamed up with Georgia Power Citizens, The Statesboro Citizens Chapter, and local volunteers to pack over 1,200 summer survival bags for the students.

Donations filled the tables, and volunteers were busy at work stuffing bag after bag in an organized and streamlined immense assembly line. The cinch bags, which were filled from seam to seam, were then loaded into grocery carts and moved down the hall where they were put in gigantic bins to await pickup.

"We've got four lines going," Liz Corbett, founder of The Button, said. "It's a community effort; it's not one [person]."

School resource officers are scheduled to pick the bags up and deliver them to area schools soon.
