Bulloch County VOAD needs more trained volunteers to assist our community in times of crisis and encourages churches, civic clubs and individuals to attend this training. The Early Response Team (ERT) Training by UMCOR will take place on Saturday, January 18 at Pittman Park UMC in Statesboro, GA.

As Georgia recovers from Tropical Storm Debby and Hurricane Helene, FEMA urges residents to take proactive steps to strengthen their homes against future storms, with federal assistance available for mitigation efforts.

The Mobile Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Bulloch County will remain open daily until Friday, January 17, 2025, giving survivors of Tropical Storm Debby and Hurricane Helene more time to seek in-person FEMA assistance. Residents in designated counties are encouraged to apply for disaster relief before the final application deadline has been extended until February 7, 2025.

Homeowners and renters affected by Tropical Storm Debby in August and Hurricane Helene in September now have until February 7 to apply for assistance.

The National Weather Service in Charleston, South Carolina has issued a tornado watch for parts of Georgia and South Carolina. This watch includes Statesboro and Bulloch County, GA and will remain in effect until 1:00 PM EST Sunday afternoon.

FEMA has returned to the Kiwanis Fairgrounds Bulloch County to open a temporary mobile Disaster Recovery Center. Bulloch and area residents affected by Hurricane Helene and Tropical Storm Debby are being urged to come to the center to make sure they have completed their FEMA disaster assistance applications ahead of the January 7, 2025 , deadline.

A wave of freezing weather is set to move into Statesboro and surrounding areas over the next few days, bringing sub-freezing temperatures and frosty mornings. Residents should prepare for chilly conditions, with lows dipping into the mid-20s and sunny but brisk days ahead.

FEMA has opened a Disaster Recovery Center in Bulloch County at the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fairgrounds to provide one-on-one help for Georgians affected by Hurricane Helene. Anyone in Georgia impacted can come to any of the Disaster Recovery Centers centers which are open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Read the story for full list of centers and more information on how to get FEMA assistance.
