STATESBORO — Statesboro Blue Devils took on the Bradwell Tigers at home where they dominated in a 4-1 Lady Blue Devil win and a 3-1 Blue Devil win.
The Girls Started Slow, but Showed No Mercy
In the Lady Blue Devil match, the girls put pressure on the ball from beginning to end. Overall they played well. They started out a little slow, but did great with following up on every shot on goal.
The Lady Blue Devils are now 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the region so far. Head coach Sarah Parker was happy overall with how her girls played and knows what things they need to work on for their next game.
“We have been working on being consistent with stringing together our passes and making runs to open up the field,” Parker said. “The girls are hungry for another win and it shows in their work ethic this week.”
Goals in the match were made by Sophomore Angelica Halaby with two, Senior Erin Wiggins with one and Junior Gracen Adams with one.
The Boys Started Out Strong, But Reeled Back in the End
In the Blue Devils match, the boys didn’t waste any time putting points on the board. Within the first minute, the Blue Devils didn’t waste any time with Sophomore Tupper Saussy putting the ball in the back of the net not even a minute into the match.
In the first half the boys seemed to execute their game plan well going up 2-0, but according to head coach Jared Simonin that can be the most dangerous score in soccer because you can think it’s a lot until your opponent scores a goal.
They did well in the second half to fight hard for that third goal which put them up two goals. Someone who stood out in the match was first time soccer player Creighton Horst. Horst recently signed an athletic football scholarship to Georgia Military College and decided to give soccer a try in his final year at Statesboro High School.
“I love his attitude,” Simonin said. “He comes out here, he works hard and he plays for his teammates.”
Horst is the starting goalkeeper for the Blue Devils, and although this is his first time playing, you would think he was a four year veteran the way he was making saves left and right. Throughout the whole game, Horst had 13 saves allowing only one goal in what was only his second game.
Goals in the match were made by Sophomore Tupper Saussy with one, and Keith Howard with two.
