The Savannah Bridge Run has become an annual tradition for South Georgia. On the first Saturday of every December, participants line up to run over the Talmadge Bridge in Savannah.
It typically includes a series of races, with the most notable being a 10K and a 5K. The event takes runners across the iconic Talmadge Memorial Bridge, which spans the Savannah River and connects Georgia to South Carolina.
The starting line is in Hutchinson Island, and the finish line is at the intersection at Montgomery Street and West Oglethorpe Avenue.
This year, there were a couple of Statesboro residents that finished with some top times. Joseph Hand, son of Carl and Ashley Hand, age 9, finished with the best time in his age group. He ran the 5k and finished with a time of 23:19. The next fastest participant was about 5 minutes behind Joseph.
Richard Cleveland finished with the best time for males aged 45 to 49 in the Ruck Sack race. In this race, all runner carry a 25 pound plate. He ran the route in 24:33. Richard finished 3rd in the general race. His son, Isaac Cleveland, placed 8th in males from ages 15 to 19. Isaac ran in the 10k and finished with a time of 1:08:30.
Christina Gipson was another Statesboro resident that placed 1st in her group. She had the fastest time for women aged 40 to 44. She finished with a time of 25:45 in the 5k.
