Panthers pound the Cobras for first win of the season

The Portal Panthers went on the road to take on Twiggs County on Friday, August 30th. The Panthers were able to come away with a win for their first of the season.

2 weeks after losing to Bulloch Academy in the Erk Russell Classic, Portal was looking to get back to their winning ways when they went on the road to take on the Twiggs County Cobras. The Portal Panthers defeated the Cobras 34-20 on Friday Night. 

The Panthers scored 34 unanswered points in route to their win against Twiggs County. A 62-yard pick 6 by Brian McQueen put the game out of reach in the 4th quarter. Mcqueen now has 2 defensive touchdowns on the season. 

Portal outscored their opponents 20-0 in the 3rd quarter to take full control over the game. The Panthers entered the second half down 12-7. Portal took the lead on a 15-yard rushing touchdown by Jason Crawford.  Later in the period, Quarterback Chase Smith was able to connect with Samari Mcbride to get down to Twiggs County's 25-yard line. The Panthers would add to the score with a 25-yard rushing touchdown by Jaylon Strickland. The next possession, Brian McQueen was able to break free for a long run all the way down the 8 yard line. Harold Washington would haul in a touchdown from Chase Smith to make the score 27-12 after the extra point. 

The Cobras scored the first 12 points of the game. Brian McQueen got the Panthers on the board with a rushing touchdown midway through the 2nd quarter. Momentum shifted all the way in Portal's direction when Kobe Burroughs picked off a pass and set the offense up inside their opponent's 10 yard line. 

The Panthers' record improves to 1-1 on the season.
