Georgia Southern’s (GS) top golfers are gearing up to compete for the Sun Belt's automatic bid to the NCAA Regional this week.
The Eagles are currently in Madison, Mississippi for the Sun Belt Championship, which starts on Monday, April 24, at the Annandale Golf Club.
The champion will be determined by match play for the seventh straight championship. The teams will play 18 holes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with the top-four teams advancing to match play on Thursday.
The top seed will take on the fourth seed, and No. 2 will meet No. 3 in a morning session with the winners squaring off on Thursday afternoon.
The Eagles (26) are one of five Sun Belt teams ranked in the top-100, according to the most recent Golfstat rankings, joining Southern Miss (68), Arkansas State (72), Troy (77) and ULM (99).
GS won the championship in 2021 and 2015 (stroke play only) and has advanced to match play in each of the last five championships.
The Eagles finished first in stroke play in 2019 and 2021 and tied for first last season, earning the top seed for match play by virtue of winning the non-counting score tiebreaker.
This will be the fourth Sun Belt Championship for GS Eagle Ben Carr (T7, 1, T3) and the third for Mason Williams (T34, T8).
Wilson Andress (T5) and Brantley Baker (T34) are playing in their second Sun Belt Championship, and Parker Claxton will be playing in his first.
The Eagles last competed in the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational on April 1 and 2 at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta.
GS finished eighth in a field that featured eight teams in the top-50 in the country and six in the top-25, including No. 9 Texas, the defending national champion.
Williams shot 69-73-72 to finish two-under and tie for 21st, and Andress tied for 28th after posting an even-par 74-69-73. Carr was preparing for playing in the Masters the following week and did not compete in the event.
Carr will make his 50th career start in the lineup for the Eagles, while Williams makes his 42nd and Andress will make his 35th start. Brantley Baker is in the lineup for the 15th time in his career, and Parker Claxton makes his sixth start.
The Eagles are paired with Southern Miss and Arkansas State in Monday's first round and will tee off the first hole at 9:30 a.m. ET.
All three rounds of stroke play, along with Thursday's semi final and championship matches will be broadcast live on ESPN+. For more information, click here.
