Eagles Baseball Run-Rule Old Dominion Monarchs to Salvage Series, 16-0

The Eagles will play the next five games on the road, first at Georgia Tech on Tuesday, followed by an early weekend series at Coastal Carolina on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team came away from Sunday's game with a 16-0 win at J.I. Clements Stadium. It was the first game of the Eagles season that ended in a run-rule, as the Eagles were up by more than 10 runs in the seventh inning.

Action started in the bottom of the first inning when designated hitter Corey Dowdell crushed a ball to left center field, putting the Eagles (14-14, 5-4 SBC) up 3-0 shortly after the game had begun. In the bottom of the second inning, the Eagles would add four more runs, first from a Jesse Sherrill RBI-single scoring Cameron Crosby, followed up by a Noah Ledford three-run shot to center field to give Georgia Southern a 7-0 lead over the Monarchs (22-6, 7-2 SBC) at the end of three frames. 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Eagles batted around the order, with every player reaching base once in the inning as the Eagles put up eight runs in the inning. Jarrett Brown reached on a throwing error by the ODU shortstop with two outs, and the Eagles began to pour it on, Furst, Luke Hatcher's RBIs-ingle scored Brown, followed by Dowdell's RBI single that scored Ledford. Blake Evans knocked a RBI-double down the right field line to score Hatcher, Dowdell scored on a passed ball, Crosby hit a RBI-single to score Evans, and JP Tighe's RBI-double scored Crosby. Sam Blancato's single and error to left field would plate Tighe, and Sherrill's RBI-single through the rght side would score the final run of the inning, putting the Eagles ahead 15-0 after four innings. Georgia Southern tacked on a final run in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Crosby's sac fly plated Evans, who was on third after a lead-off triple.

Ga'von Wray earned his first win of the season after pitching five scoreless innings to start the game. Wray only allowed two hits with no runs and three strikeouts.
