Ms. Janie L. Hill, age 89, entered rest Monday, October 10, 2024, at the Heritage Inn Health and Rehabilitation Center.
The Bulloch County native was the daughter of the late John Henry and Evelyn Owens Hill.
She received her formal education in the Bulloch County School System and was a graduate of the William James High School class of 1955. After graduation she attended Albany State College (now university) where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in education.
Ms. Hill began her professional career of teaching, in Americus Georgia with the Sumter County Board of Education. Years later she became employed with the Screven County Board of Education as a teacher at Central Middle School, where she retired. Although she retired from her daily routine of teaching, she continued to spread her love of educating children, by gaining employment as a substitute teacher for the Bulloch County Board of Education.
Ms. Janie L. Hill was a dedicated and faithful member of the Magnolia Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as Mother of the church. She served in the Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Association for over forty-three years as a corresponding secretary. As an advocate of education, she worked diligently to support the Pilgrim’s Student Scholarship Fund. She was a former member of the Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Roger Hill, Ben Samuel Hill, Thomas Hill, L.D. (Alberta) Hill, Susie Mae (Edward) Clifton, and John (Ruth) Hill.
Those left to cherish her memories are, a brother Amos (Rosetta) Hill, Statesboro, GA; a devoted niece and caretaker, Betty L. Hill, Statesboro, GA; sisters-in-law, Ronnie Mae Hill Reeves and Betty S. Hill-Lundy (Nathaniel), both of Statesboro, GA; a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends and family for visitation, on Friday evening, from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M., in the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
Ms. Hill will lie in repose at church from 11 A.M. until the funeral hour on the day of service. There will be no viewing after the eulogy.
A celebration of life service for Ms. Janie L. Hill, will be held at 12 o’clock, Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Magnolia Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Frankie L. Owens, presiding and the Rev. Dr. Francys Johnson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Final rites have been entrusted to Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
