November 11, 1974 - December 31, 2024
Christopher Gerald Thompson
How can words be written for a man who penned his own script? Even the most carefully considered statements seem inadequate. Limitations were not accepted by Chris. And that should be honored in the telling of his story, which won’t be the last attempt at honoring him, but rest assured it will be treated as such.
Born Christopher Gerald Thompson to Barbara and Jerry on November 11, 1974, his mother swore he could crawl at birth. He never stopped moving, busting through the walls of Southeast Bulloch High School in 1993. Chris was surely a spectacle for so many of his teachers. Reports likely labeled him as unfocused but polite, only the latter of which was the true.
An engineer of all things living, Chris spent his years perfecting the land and everything it took to do so. Many a man marveled at his shop. A place that encouraged growth. Growth of crops. But more importantly of spirits. Chris spent his days working to cultivate the land as well as his various hobbies, activities that brought him great joy and the opportunity to form deep relationships. Many people were lucky enough to cross paths with Chris, and each one of them were touched by his attention to detail and generosity.
Chris married Jamie Griffin Thompson on his birthday on November 11, 2000. While he still never took direction or suggestions well, he loved the family and friends surrounding him as a result of this union with the same voracity in which he approached every single thing he conquered. Among a lengthy list of accomplishments Chris’s greatest is his daughter Bo, born in 2006, almost an exact replica of her father.
Chris approached life in a perpetual stream of forward motion. Progress never ceased under his influence. A true dichotomy, the two things Chris loved most were going fast and going slow. He was as patient as he was kind. He had the most genuine ability to see things through. And when he took the time to rest, speed is what he craved. Race cars. ATVs. Classic rides. Chris never met a set of wheels he couldn’t master steering.
One of his last labors of love was the construction of a dirt bike track that wowed anyone who saw it. If you knew him, you find the irony in that very track claiming his life. He had the last say, as always. He passed quickly to heaven, doing something he loved, just as he deserved. He leaves behind a legacy of living. A life so truly well lived it’s almost unbelievable. A true masterpiece.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Thompson and Barbara and Tony Franco and Bill and Dianne Griffin.
He is survived by his wife, Jamie and daughter Bo, and brother and sister-in-law Charley and Jodie Waters (Eason, Lane, Tully and James Henry), as well as a list of friends and family so long it would require too much ink to print.
