A 19-year-old male from Doerun, Georgia, died Friday night following an accidental shooting at a party in Statesboro.
Bulloch County 911 received a call at 10:39 PM on March 28, 2025, reporting a shooting in the 100 block of Ashbrook Drive. Bulloch County EMS and Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene, where they found the young man with life-threatening injuries. He was immediately transported to East Georgia Regional Medical Center (EGRMC), but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
The Bulloch County Coroner, Chuck Francis, identified the deceased as Garron Joe Wingate, 19, of Doerun, GA. According to Coroner Francis, Wingate was in Statesboro visiting friends and attending a party when the tragic incident occurred. Preliminary findings indicate that Wingate was handling a handgun when it accidentally discharged, striking him.
The Bulloch County Sheriff's Office is currently leading the investigation into the incident. Coroner Francis has officially ruled the death an accidental shooting.
