One bright sunny morning in March 2025, two of Statesboro’s Senior Living communities: The Cottages at Willow Pond (an independent Living Senior Community) and Southern Manor Senior Living, enjoyed a delightful mid-morning matinee at the Georgia Southern Performing Arts Center (PAC).

The performance was ‘The Country Wife’ by William Wycherley, adapted by Rachel Atkins. “A refreshing change of pace, fun and enriching way to start the day with creativity and connection. It is a little dose of culture that energizes the spirit,” said Barbara Eloi, Lifestyle Director at Southern Manor.

“'The Country Wife' is a co-production featuring student actors from Georgia Southern's Theatre Department, with several student designers also contributing to the production. Georgia Southern theatre students brought this classic Restoration comedy to life on stage,” shared Allyson Lee, PAC Patron Services Manager.

Margery Pinchwife is the supposedly naive ‘Country Wife', brought to the city by an overprotective husband, only to prove more than a match for him. When the cunning Harry Horner returns to town, their paths cross and the story takes off.

Once banned until the 1920’s, 'The Country Wife’ is a witty, bawdy comedy exploring love, marriage and reputation. A relic of its era that stands the test of time.

"This play interests crowds with a modern adaptation that is riddled with innuendos that are clever and ready to make the audience laugh,” added Daniel Brown, MFA, Performing Arts Center Director.

The Cottages at Willow Pond had a vibrant morning at the theater, enjoying the magic of a live performance. It was a delightful experience filled with laughter, connection, and unforgettable memories.

“This is just one of the many enriching activities we offer at The Cottages,” said Donya Moore, Cottage Coordinator. “It is important that our residents have opportunities to enjoy events in Statesboro and the surrounding areas. Staying active and connected to the community is key. They absolutely loved it and added that the actors were exceptional!”
