The American legion Dexter Allen Post 90 in Statesboro has announced that it will observe its first annual Four Chaplains Day program.

This day is set aside to reflect on the values of unity and selflessness that the four chaplains showed. The program will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 2:00pm at The Averitt Center for the Arts, located at 33 E. Main Street, Statesboro, GA 30458.

Four Chaplains: A Compelling Story

On February 3, 1943, a transport ship on the Atlantic Ocean was torpedoed causing many passengers and crew to be killed or injured. Through the pandemonium, four men spread out among the Soldiers, calming the frightened, tending the wounded and guiding the disoriented toward safety.

These were four U.S. Army Chaplains who demonstrated bravery, love of their fellow man, along with a disregard of which faith, or no faith of their fellow shipmates believed.

In their honor, February 3rd is the day of observation of Four Chaplains Day in the USA. Monday, February 3, 2025, is the actual Four Chaplains Day. The American Legion program will be conducted the day before.

The Four Chaplains Day Program

The short program will tell this story and highlight why each of these men were honored with a special Congressional Special medal for Heroism, the Distinguished Service Cross, and Purple Heart Medal. It is the intention of The American Legion Post 90 to observe this day of honor every year to give us all an opportunity to admire these heroes and reflect on what it can mean to be an American.

The program will be held on February 2, 2025, at 2:00 pm at The Averitt Center for the Arts, located at 33 E. Main Street, Statesboro, GA 30458. Doors will open at 1:30 pm.
