The Statesboro Police Department is now accepting applications for the next adult Citizens Police Academy.

The next Citizens Police Academy will begin October 1st, 2024. Applications for the Citizens Police Academy are available at the Statesboro Police Department located at 25 West Grady Street. You can also find the application online here. The deadline to turn in a completed application is September 17th, 2024.

This year’s Citizens Police Academy is a 6-week long program consisting of one class a week on Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm. The classes cover topics such as patrol, traffic enforcement, investigation, and special operations. The presentations are slide show/lecture style and will be given by officers and detectives of the Statesboro Police Department.

There will also be multiple opportunities for hands-on learning through equipment demonstrations, practical scenarios, and ride-alongs with patrol officers.

The Citizens Police Academy is free to the public. Seats are limited and will be filled based on a first come/first serve basis. Requirements include a criminal history check and a minimum age of 18 years old. (Any criminal history that includes a conviction for a felony or misdemeanor of a high and aggravated nature will disqualify the applicant from attending the Citizen Police Academy.)

Class dates are October 1-November 5, 2024, with a graduation planned on November 5.

Statesboro Police Department encourages all applicants to be able to commit to the full 6 weeks to get the most out of the program.
