The Statesboro Fire Department, in partnership with the American Red Cross, successfully conducted a smoke alarm blitz on Saturday, March 29, 2025. This life-saving initiative focused on one and two-family residential homes in the City of Statesboro’s Council District 1 region, north of Statesboro High School and south of E. Main Street.
During the event, firefighters and Red Cross volunteers installed 83 smoke alarms across 38 homes, ensuring that 78 citizens now have proper smoke alarm coverage in their residences.
This effort aligns with the Red Cross’s National Sound the Alarm initiative, which aims to reduce home fire deaths and injuries by installing free smoke alarms in at-risk communities.
Kelly Crane, Regional Manager for the American Red Cross, recognized the event as “the most successful event she had participated in during March.”
The Statesboro Fire Department is proud of this achievement and remains committed to enhancing fire safety throughout the community.
In addition to its partnership with the Red Cross, the Statesboro Fire Department offers free smoke detector installation to residents upon request. The department has a limited supply of free smoke detectors on hand to provide to residents unable to purchase detectors due to circumstantial hardships.
This critical program ensures that every household can access life-saving smoke detectors, regardless of their financial status.
The Statesboro Fire Department encourages residents to take advantage of this free program and ensure their homes have essential safety equipment. For more information on fire prevention or to request a smoke alarm installation, contact the department at 912-764-3473.
