Ogeechee Technical College held its annual commencement ceremony at 7:00pm on May 9 in Hanner Fieldhouse on the campus of Georgia Southern University in front of over 3,000 guests.
330 students were honored in front of an energy-filled audience of faculty, staff, family members, friends, and local dignitaries. Students who have earned their associates degrees, diplomas, technical certificates of credit, and Georgia High School Equivalency diplomas were all recognized and celebrated throughout the evening’s ceremony.
Following a special moment in which OTC President, Lori Durden, asked the graduates to applaud and recognize their parents, spouses, and children, she expressed her gratitude for graduating class of 2024.
“Graduates, you have accepted the challenge of learning something new, and you should be rewarded, and that is why we are here this evening,” said Durden. “I’m sure that you feel exhilaration for what you have accomplished, and the knowledge and skills that you’ve gained are your rewards and something that can never be taken from you.”
The commencement address, given by 2002 Computer Information Systems program graduate, David Rogers, was a reminder to all students that success is a result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.
“As you step out into the world armed with your achievements and driven by your dreams, remember that it’s not just about reaching your destination, it’s about the resilience, the grit, and the grace with which you navigate your path,” said Rogers. “It’s about proving to yourself, more than anyone else, that you are capable.”
The ceremony concluded in celebration with glow sticks, music, balloons and applause. According to data from OTC Registrar, Brandy Murphy, there were approximately 844 students eligible to graduate that finished programs this academic year.
