Michael Kelly arrested in connection to December Park Place shooting

The Statesboro Police Department (SPD) arrested Statesboro resident Michael Kelly in connection with a shooting in the Park Place Apartments complex in Statesboro which occurred on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at at 1:45 p.m.

The Statesboro Police Department (SPD) have been searching for Statesboro resident Michael Kelly in connection with a shooting in the Park Place Apartments complex in Statesboro.

On Tuesday, September 5, 2023, SPD officers received a tip that Kelly was located on Lanier Drive in Statesboro. Patrol officers were able to observe him walking and after a short foot pursuit, take him into custody. Kelly was transported to the Bulloch County Jail on one count of Aggravated Assault where he remains pending further judicial action.

The Shooting

On Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 1:45 p.m. SPD officers and detectives responded to Park Place Apartments for a shooting. Upon their arrival, they located a 27 year old male shot once in the torso.

Bulloch County EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to the Air Evac medical helicopter base at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds. He was then was flown by the Air Evac helicopter team to Memorial Health in Savannah.  He has been released with life changing injuries.

SPD detectives investigating the case were able to identify 20 year old Michael Kelly with a Chandler road address in Statesboro as the shooter. Warrants were issued for Kelly for Aggravated Assault.
