This week, George L. Smith State Park in Twin City announced its partial reopening. The park has been closed following damage it sustained in Hurricane Helene earlier this fall.
On Friday, January 31, 2025, the park will partially open. Areas that will be open include the park office, lake, boat ramps, boat rentals, the 3 mile trail, and the 2.7 mile trail.
All cottages, campsites, the 1/2 mile trail, picnic shelters, and playground area will remain CLOSED until further notice. The park asks that visitors please do not enter these areas. The park staff will update the public when repairs to this area are complete.
In a Facebook post, the park shared, "Thank you for your patience during this time and we look forward to seeing everyone!"
George L. Smith is open 7am–10pm, with the office open from 8am-5pm. Parking is $5 per vehicle.
