On Thursday, April 24, excitement filled the evening air as volunteer members of the board, members of the media, and members of the Bulloch County community celebrated the ribbon being cut on the new office grounds for Habitat for Humanity of Bulloch County at 215 Savannah Ave.

The original Johnson Street Habitat for Humanity property, which included the Habitat Bulloch office and Spike's ReStore, was one of the first Habitat ReStores in the country. It was established in 1994 under the original name “Habitat Home.”
The original office building played a crucial role in raising funds, but in recent years, it became apparent that the financial reality had shifted. The building and land on which it operated was worth more than the store makes in ten years of profit.
After tough consideration, the original office was sold with the plan to continue working towards the vision of building homes in partnership with families in need of an affordable place to live.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held in front of the new office building at 215 Savannah Ave., drew an excited crowd eager to witness the latest step forward for the nonprofit housing organization.
Statesboro Bulloch Chamber of Commerce Chair Joel Hanner issued the opening remarks at the ceremony recognizing board members in attendance, sponsors of the event, and giving a warm introduction for Jarrod Akins, the current board president for the organization's local Habitat affiliate.
Akins highlighted the overall mission Habitat for Humanity of Bulloch County and honed in on serving the community by changing the lives of each family they can reach.
“Every family we serve, you know, has such a unique story and need, and we work with them to set up mortgage payments so they can start building generational wealth for their families. Really changing the lives of families is our main goal,” said Akins.
This evening ceremony was a true celebration as all of the Habitat for Humanity of Bulloch County board members stood together united as Executive Director Kathy Jenkins took the honor in cutting the ribbon to open up a new chapter for the nonprofit housing organization, garnering a massive applause.
The ribbon was finally cut, officially opening the doors to the new office building, where guests were invited to explore the newly designed space in which the organization looks to continue building on its long-term vision.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony offered everyone in attendance delicious catering inside the new office space, creating a warm atmosphere full of smiles and laughter throughout the building.
Habitat for Humanity of Bulloch County is now open Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm, continuing their mission of serving the community by changing families' lives, building homes one step at a time.
Habitat for Humanity of Bulloch County is now located at 215 Savannah Ave. Statesboro, GA.
