Dr. Patrick Novotny named 2024 Sun Belt Conference Faculty of the Year for GS Campus

Dr. Patrick Novotny, a Professor of Political Science, has been awarded the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Institutional Award for Faculty of the Year for Georgia Southern University campus. The honor recognizes his outstanding contributions to academia, his dedication to student success, and his impact on the university community.

Presented annually, the award highlights faculty members who demonstrate excellence in teaching, mentorship, and service to students. Dr. Novotny received the recognition in a special ceremony from two students: Delanie Thames, a former student in his POLS 1101 class, and Alex Suk, co-president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Dr. Novotny’s influence extends beyond the classroom, as he has played a pivotal role in shaping the academic and professional growth of his students. His commitment to fostering critical thinking and civic engagement has earned him widespread respect among colleagues and students alike.

Dr. Novotny considers winning the campus Wells Warren Professor of the Year in 2004 and the confidence of our student athletes and academic advisors as his selection in 2024 as the campus Sunbelt Professor of the Year for the Georgia Southern University Campus as the greatest honors of his teaching career.
