Georgia Power Company(GPC) has restored power to approximately 1,442 customers after a brief outage in the City of Statesboro, GA.

The outage began just before 3:00pm on Friday, May 31, 2024 and was out less than fifteen minutes.

The outage extended from the center of town from along North Main Street to Northside Drive West and out the westide beyond the bypass.

Two banks, CORE Credit Union and Morris Bank on North Main were impacted by the outage.

According to Joel Hanner, GPC Area Manager, a large truck struck a telephone line on Stockyard Road.  It did not hit the power lines, but the vibration of the poles caused breakers to trip, impacting power supply to those areas.

Once the GPC engineers confirmed there was no damage to GPC infrastructure they were able to quickly restore the power.

There were no reports of injuries from the accident.

Telephone crews remain in the area making repairs at the time of this story.
