On Saturday, September 14, 2024, the Brooklet Peanut Pageant made a spectacular return after a hiatus of many years, thanks to the vision and leadership of first-time Pageant Director Marley Thompson and support from the Brooklet Community Development Association and volunteers.
Thompson, who has been involved in pageants since an early age, says the pageants that meant the most to her were the local ones held in her community. Her inspiration for bringing back Brooklet's Peanut Pageant was met with great excitement and enthusiasm, with 62 entries from area contestants.
Following the event, Thompson thanked Ellen Perkins and the rest of the Brooklet Community Development Association, and many others in her remarks on Facebook saying, "Back in February/March I reached out to the Brooklet Community Development Association in regards to wanting to host and bring back the peanut pageant this year. I presented it to all the members and everyone was on board. From that day to today I have been working to prepare for today! I never thought I would end up with 62 entries! It still blows me away!! I’ve had the best support from all over in every way!nThank you for the ones who believed in me and were there throughout all of the planning."
She says she hoped that the pageant would give the contestants an opportunity to be themselves. "Being backstage today and hearing the girls clap, cheer each other on, and uplift them was what made my day!" Thompson shared on Facebook.
The return of the pageant was a win for more than just the contestants below! Congratulations to Thompson and everyone who worked to bring back the Peanut Pageant and ensure its success.
