Throughout this year, the American Ranch Horse Association Georgia chapter, presented many horse shows for the local community and surrounding areas. This past Friday, Dec. 9- Sunday, Dec. 11, was their last horse show of the 2022 year. Billy Springer, Bulloch County Agricultural Complex manager, explains the reasoning of the show. “They simulate aspects of ranch work, and it’s judged.”
American Ranch Horses brought great turnout
The American Ranch Horse Association is organized to encourage, promote, advertise and develop the ranch type horses as a unique and excellent athlete. According to its website, the mission at the Georgia Ranch Horse Association is to provide ranch horse enthusiasts a place to showcase and promote the abilities of the all-around working ranch horse.
This show from Dec. 9- Dec. 11 had a great turnout with approximately 150 horses and 250 people that came to be amazed once again.
“It was a very successful event,” Springer said. “They earned awards at this particular event for competition.”
This event determined the association's year-end award winners. Awards were given out in categories including Ranch Cutting, Working Cow Horse, Ranch Roping, Ranch Boxing, and Herd Work. Full lists of winners and their riders and trainers are available on the GRHA Facebook page.
Ranch sorting event to be held 12/30-1/1
“Moving forward Friday, December 30th to Sunday January 1st, we will have a ranch sorting and team pinning,” Springer said. “This will be a timed competition where participants will move one cattle to the other or putting cattle into a pin and the fastest time wins.”
Springer mentioned that last year after hosting the event for the first time, 175 horses and 350 people came. He anticipates that event to be about the same size if not bigger for this year coming.
This organization's events are all free and open to the public.
