The Brooklet city council held a called meeting Wednesday evening January 31, 2024. Mayor Nicky Gwinnett called the meeting to order at 6:30 and welcomed the council.

Absent from the meeting were Mayor Pro-Tem Bradley Anderson and Councilman Jonathan Graham.

The agenda was approved consisting of just one item, a legal services discussion and consideration of a motion to appoint Cain Smith as city attorney for 2024.

Smith is the current Statesboro city attorney and was not present for the discussion.

Council member Rebecca Kelly said she thinks Smith has done a lot of good things for Statesboro and has the capability to keep the two cities' affairs separate.

Councilman James Harrison said Smith has the expertise that Brooklet needs.

“His experience with the municipality issues [in Statesboro] is going to serve us well”, said Councilman Keith Roughton.

After the brief discussion all present council members voted in favor of appointing Smith and the meeting was adjourned at 6:35.

Smith will serve in this position part time and will continue to serve full time as City Attorney for the City of Statesboro.
