Savannah native Don Waters shared his inspiring journey from college student to CEO, reflecting on family, hard work, and vision in a speech at Georgia Southern University’s Norman Fries Distinguished Lectureship Series. Waters detailed how his experiences in law and business shaped his commitment to Southeast Georgia’s growth, urging the community to support Georgia Southern’s role in advancing regional progress.

On Saturday, October 19, 2024, Georgia Southern University’s Statesboro campus buzzed with energy as 356 participants took part in the annual True Blue 5K and Abbie’s Adventure Race, celebrating school spirit and supporting the Abbie DeLoach Foundation.

An extra special eagle has joined the flock in Statesboro with the addition of Virginia, named after Maurice Jackson's mother who was a beloved Eagle Dining Services employee.

For 17 years, Georgia Southern incoming freshmen have volunteered with the Office of Leadership and Community Engagement's BUILD program. Over the last two weeks, 70 incoming students served with 21 organizations around the community, forming friendships and community bonds that last through their college days and beyond.

Donya Glenn earned his bachelor’s degree in public health from Georgia Southern in just three years. He credits the many student resources on campus for helping him excel as a student and graduate with no student loan debt. He's currently completing an internship at the Willow Hill Heritage & Renaissance Center, and next up, he plans to return to Southern and earn his MPH.

Shanya Sherman, a college student who graduated from the Our Girls Rock Too program, cites her mentors as her inspiration for many things in her life, including the decision to return as a mentor. "They inspired me to be great, to do great, and become a leader."

Five years after his first tandem-skydiving jump, Jack Broadhead has found community by helping to rebuild the skydiving team at Georgia Tech and competing at national championships. Having earned his instructor rating, pilot's license and soon his Master's degree, Broadhead thanks the thrilling hobby for making him who he is today. The Button, a nonprofit organization in Statesboro, provides much-needed shampoo, soap, deodorant, and other essential toiletries upon request from area pre-teens and teens. All orders are confidential and are delivered discreetly to young people who reach out for them. Susan Allen, Minister of Children at First Baptist Church Statesboro for 25 years, has announced she will retire in early March. She leaves behind a robust, faith-filled children's program and a legacy of love.
